Here is a quick study on what the Bible says about what happens after you die and the afterlife.
What happens when you die?
Hebrews 9:27 And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,
Who has done good or who has sinned?
Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
What is sin?
1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
Have you kept the Law - the Ten Commandments?
Mark 10:18-19 Jesus Said "Only God is truly good. But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.’”
Have you obeyed the Ten Commandments? Will you be innocent or guilty?
Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
Where will you spend Eternity - Heaven (Kingdom of God, eternal life) or Hell (Death, God's Wrath, fiery lake of burning sulfur, be destroyed)
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
Revelation 21:8 “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death… (separate from God)
Does God want you to go to Hell (Death, God's Wrath, fiery lake of burning sulfur, be destroyed, Die)?
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
What has God done for you?
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
How much does God love you?
John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
What if you die without Jesus?
John 3:36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. [This is the Good News of the Gospel you can be forgiven] Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
John 8:24That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”
How will you respond?
Mark 1:15 “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
Romans 6:23 "…but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Summary
When you die, you will face judgment based on the Ten Commandments. Ever told a lie, stolen anything or looked with lust? Will God find you innocent or guilty? God cannot be in the presence of sin. "For You are not a God Who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You" (Psalm 5:4). Will God send you to Heaven or Hell? God does not want to send you to Hell. The Good News is that 2,000 years ago, God sent his Son Jesus to earth. Jesus being fully man and fully God fulfilled the Law. He willingly died on the cross to pay for your sin, then rose from the dead defeating sin and death. Repent and trust Jesus alone for the forgiveness of all your sins. God will forgive all your sin and grant you eternal life.
Romans 10:9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. And verse 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
2 Corinthians 6:2 For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the dayofsalvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the dayofsalvation.
